Don't
graduate, celebrate.
This American comedy is set on a college campus where Van Wilder (Reynolds)
is the most popular guy around, a perennial student, who has been there
for the last seven years – well if you love a place, why leave? He’s
the person that all the guys want to be friends with, and all the girls
want to sleep with - until his father refuses to keep paying his college
fees… |
Van's
been "The Man" at Coolidge these past seven years. He has a full-time
assistant, a personalised golf cart, and immediate entry into every club
committee, frat house, classroom and administrative office, there's no place
he'd rather be, doing the thing he does best: helping out the underdog!
With a heart minted in 24k gold, Van uses his influence, wiles and considerable
charms to help the "loser" be a winner. Whether it's the foreign
exchange student desperate to lose his virginity, the sickest kid on campus
or the downcast underclassman who just needs some inspirational, homespun
wisdom, Van's always got a solution.
|
The
trouble is this professional student has just learned that after seven blissful
years, his principle financier - Dad - has cut him off! Without any tuition
money to continue his good work, Van does what any self-respecting, universally
admired big-man-on-campus would do – he starts a business planning
the greatest parties any college has ever seen! As the beer flows out and
the dough rolls in, Van catches the eye of serious (but sexy) Gwen Pearson
(Reid), a student journalist who's determined to expose the naked truth
beneath Van's wilder exterior. What begins as a clash of wills, however,
soon leads to unexpected romance. That is, until Gwen's jealous boyfriend
decides to put a stop once and for all to Van's rule as campus king. |
’Van
Wilder: Party Liaison’ is a comedy from National Lampoon, the same
US team that gave us ‘Animal House’, the 1978 comedy that
launched the career of John Belushi. Ryan Reynolds plays Van Wilder and
unfortunately he has a major problem since his character is not basically
really nice – and that makes him a little boring. Reynolds is best
known for his appearances on US TV shows “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”
and “Two Guys and a Girl”. Tara Reid is gorgeous as usual,
but her role like all the others in this film is simply to set up vast
amounts of jokes about sex, semen, breasts and bottoms, flatulence, masturbation,
public nudity, projectile vomiting and defecation – and if that’s
what you like, you’ll love it.
