Kat Ellis (Debra Messing) is a service rep for Virgin Atlantic living in New York. On day she gets a call from her mother in England and is informed that her spoiled half-sister Amy is about to get married and the best man just happens to be Kat’s handsome ex-fiancé. What’s worse, her mother tells the single Kat that she has to bring a date, as her sister doesn’t want her spoiling her big day with all the guests feeling sorry for her.

Being an enterprising woman she hires a professional escort, although it doesn’t come without a hefty price of some $6000. He is Nick Mercer (Mulroney), one of New York’s much in-demand professional male escorts. But the price appears worth it, as on arriving in England, Nick uses all his charms helping Kat to get through the trial and tribulations of her family. He also manages to convince everyone he meets that he and Kat are indeed, an item.

As Kat’s parents Bunny and Victor, her self-absorbed half-sister Amy and her fiancée Edward are bowled over by Nick’s good looks and charisma Kat too, finds herself feeling things she’s never felt before.

In the tradition of such comedies as ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’, ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ and ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’, ‘The Wedding Date’ is a funny, touching and utterly romantic look at love, marriage, family and the surprises life holds in store.
