Frank Castle, (Jane), is an undercover FBI agent and former Delta Force operative, who has seen enough blood and death for one lifetime. After a successful and colourful career, he finally decides that it is time to retire, hoping to lead a normal life and focus his energy upon his loving family, wife Maria and son Will. Before retirement Castle is asked to complete one final assignment, but everything goes horribly wrong. The assignment spirals out of control when a young man, the son of the infamous Tampa businessman Howard Saint, is accidentally killed.
The Tampa family history is not as innocent as it outwardly appears; beneath the wealthy and glamorous exterior lies a violent and illegal past. The death of their son leaves the family hell-bent on revenge against those responsible for his death. Realising that he might be implicated, Castle fears for the safety of his own family. His worst nightmares soon become a reality when his family reunion turns into a massacre. Castle is helpless as his entire family pay the price of Howard Saint’s twisted vengeance. Now consumed by his own grief and anger, Castle knows that for true retribution he must take the law into his own hands. To rid the streets of such criminal scum he must become The Punisher. |
In seeking to punish the people that are responsible for the death of his family, Castle clouds the fine line between punishment and retribution, dedicating himself to the role of Judge, jury and executioner. As a loner and a renegade, with nothing to live for but revenge, his plan becomes increasingly elaborate and twisted. As well as a fearsome arsenal of weaponry Castle cuts a distinct figure dressed all in black with a menacing scull emblazoned across his chest.
‘The Punisher’ is an extremely bloody and violent film, revolving around the central issue of revenge. As audiences become increasingly pervious to comic book adaptations, so ‘The Punisher’ pushes the envelope of our traditional understanding of good guys and bad guys. Castle is an anti-hero and is played with incredible intensity by Jane. Is he a hero or a villain? That’s for you to decide, as ‘The Punisher’ will have you riveted to the end. |
