Adapted
from the best-selling novels of author Robert Ludlam, ‘the Bourne
Supremacy’ continues where the smash worldwide success of ‘The
Bourne Identity’ (2002) left off. Although helmed by a different director
from the first, here, Paul Greengrass – who wrote and directed ‘Bloody
Sunday’ – manages to capture a similar atmosphere of espionage
and intrigue, with sharp camerawork creating a slick finished product. |
Matt
Damon returns as the CIA secret agent David Webb, who used to lead a double
life as the highly trained assassin Jason Bourne. Having been washed up
on a beach nearly dead and unable to remember who he was in ‘The Bourne
Identity’, he continues to find himself plagued by splintered nightmares
from his former life. Until, that is, the Chinese vice-premier is brutally
murdered and the killer leaves the calling card of Jason Bourne. This sends
the CIA into chaos, as the identity of Jason Bourne was top secret. How
could it have got out, and why is it being used to cause a rift in US-Chinese
relations? Perhaps rift is too light a word, as it becomes a race against
time to solve the mystery before a major diplomatic crisis breaks out. But
it’s not going to be easy and will involve Webb reprising the Bourne
identity, placing him in the utmost danger as the Chinese hunt down the
killer. In the process, he must protect his girlfriend Marie (Potente),
who has become embroiled in the drama. |
In
this second offering, the stakes are higher than ever as the secret agent
coolly maneuvers through the dangerous waters of international espionage
– replete with CIA plots and ever-shifting covert alliances –
while still hoping to find the truth behind his haunted memories and answers
to his fragmented past. Shot across a range of worldwide exotic locations,
‘The Bourne Supremacy’ will have you gripped by its fast-paced
and engaging plot, while stunning you visually with its mixture of high
octane action and espionage thriller. |
