There aren't that many films about hairdressers, and most of them are comedies, The Big Tease is no exception.

The film follows the adventures of Crawford Mackenzie (Craig Freguson), the greatest stylist in Glasgow, known as the Red Addair of hair, who is invited to the World Freestyle Hairdressing Championship in LA. With a BBC documentary crew (headed by Chris Langham) tracing his every step Crawford heads of to the competition, only to find that has not been invited as a competitor, but only an observer. Undeterred, the movie follows his trials and tribulations getting himself into the contest, the people he meets on the way and some interesting Sean Connery impersonations...
Likened by some to a gay, Scottish 'Full Monty', 'The Big Tease' is an excellent comedy not full of belly laughs but certainly full of quirky humour. Cameron's quest is full of setbacks, and every time you think he's got into the competition - he gets turned down again.
One of Scotland's most popular comedians Craig Ferguson slips into the role beautifully, not surprising since the co-scripted the movie, and co-star Frances Fisher ('Titanic') is wonderful as the celebrity agent who befriends him after he rescues her hair from 'product hell'.
It is a crying shame that this film is only getting a limited release in and around London, if it's on near you seek it out, and if not, it's got to be highly recommended when it gets to video.

Either way it's a good way to spend an evening.
