The Amityville Horror tells the story of a family terrorised by their own house. When George and Kathy Lutz move in to their new home in Amityville, Long Island, they are unaware of the terrible events the house was involved in. A little under a year before they moved in, their house on Ocean Avenue was the scene of a horrific mass-homicide, as young Ronald DeFeo took a shotgun to his entire family while they slept. DeFeo later claimed in court that voices he heard in the house told him to do this.

At first the Lutz are completely in love with their new home, and the children appear to be settling in well - particularly young Chelsea, who has a new invisible friend called Jody. But before long George begins to act strangely, and at 3:15am every morning (the same time that DeFeo reportedly murdered his family) strange things occur in the house.

Although this film is supposedly a remake of the 1979 ‘Classic’ starring James Brolin, it’s actually more of a retelling, and is ten times more scary than the original. The acting is superb, especially Reynolds and George in the lead roles, and the children too make the story particularly believable.
