The horrors of a war are not the only thing that a group of soldiers have to contend with in this very shocking and scary British made film…

World War One: the trenches, the gas, the shelling. It’s all too much for the members of Y-Company. When they are forced “over the top” at gunpoint, they take part in a terrible and catastrophic offensive. When the survivors find themselves lost in a gas cloud, they keep moving until they find a seemingly deserted network of German trenches.
Killing a few stragglers, they dig in, but the place is truly horrific. Filled with deep mud, corpses, rats and barbed wire, tension starts to mount within the group as any hope of rescue fades and they realise that the place has a power of its own.
Driven to the edge by the atmosphere of death and the phantoms they sense around them they turn on each other, with only the youngest company member - Charlie Shakespeare (Bell) able to see that they are being given choices which could lead to their survival… or their demise.
‘Deathwatch’ comes close on the heels of another excellent British horror film, this summer’s ‘Dog Soldiers’. With a totally horrific setting, and some cool effects this film is just as good and definitely worth seeing. The cast are fantastic, especially Jamie Bell, who plays the youngster who lies about his age to get to the front, only to have his ideals of defending his county shattered by the realities of war – not to mention his experiences in the trench.

The other outstanding performance is from Andy Serkis as a soldier who has become totally dehumanized by the effects of the war.
