A mild-mannered businessman is wrongly accused of a crime and sentenced to an anger management program, where he discovers that his instructor is a crazy psycho with serious problems of his own.

Dave Buznik (Sandler) is a mild-mannered, non-confrontational sort of person, but when a misunderstanding on an airplane ends up with him in court on a charge of air-rage, he could be looking at spending some time in jail. The only way to prevent himself doing time is to submit to the court’s order that he undergoes anger-management therapy with the very bizarre Dr Buddy Rydell (Nicholson).

Rydell has some strange ideas about how to cure Dave, including moving into his home (and his bed!) and assigning him an “anger ally” Chuck (John Turturro) who is even weirder than Rydell. Throughout the coming weeks, Dave has to try and keep his life on an even keel and his relationship with Linda (Tomei) separate whilst dealing with all of Rydell’s therapeutic sessions.

The group of Rydell’s patients, known as the “Fury Fighters”, that Dave joins include Nate, an over-excitable sportsman; Gina and Stacey, two over-enthusiastic porn stars; and the totally freaked-out Lou. Together with his new friends Dave is going to learn gems of wisdom such as “Temper is the only thing you don’t get rid of by losing it” and end up confronting a childhood nemesis to get through his ordeal.

Adam Sandler has been making people laugh in a whole host of well received comedies. His is not a brand of humour that works for everyone, but it has been enough to make him a big box-office draw. With ‘Anger Management’ however, Sandler may be looking at crossing over into an older generations sights with the casting coup of getting an actor of Nicholson’s standing opposite him.
