Set in 1970s San Diego , Ron Burgundy (Ferrell) is the best local TV news anchorman in the business, but behind his wonderfully coiffured hair and moustache hides a shallow and vain man with an eye for the ladies. His job is threatened, however, when feminist newswoman Veronica Corningstone (Applegate) joins the team. Despite the sexist anchorman initially fobbing her off with news reports which are classed as ‘female interest stories’ such as cooking and cat fashion shows, Veronica soon shows that she is determined to replace Ron and become anchorwoman. Soon the two begin a bitter war that finds Ron struggling to defend his position on the news-team, mainly because Veronica proves to be a serious and very talented journalist – something that Ron definitely is not!

Will Ferrell is fast building a reputation as one of the funniest actors around at the moment and not only does the Elf-star revel in his finest comedic performance to date, he also co-wrote the script with director Adam McKay. Expect many jokes to revolve around 1970s fashion and out-of-date sexist ideals that will have you choking on your popcorn and at the sam e time making you wonder how similar it all is to the newsreaders that are currently on TV!
