Although 'American Pie 2' is an ensemble comedy, the real story (oh yes, there is one) centres squarely on Jim (Biggs) and the follow on to his romantic exploits in the first movie. It seems that Czech exchange student Nadia (Elizabeth) hasn't forgotten her bedroom adventures with Jim (although she never mentions the internet), and has decided to visit again to continue where they left off before.
'American Pie 2' takes place exactly a year after the previous film. All of the gang has been at college, and now it's time for the summer break. Jim, Oz (Klein), Stifler (Seann William Scott), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) and Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) head home to a summer that seems so dull compared to college. But then they get the idea to head down to the lake and rent a beach house. Taking decorating jobs to support themselves, the guys decide to throw a huge party and invite the entire old crowd. But the night of the party is also when Nadia is due back, and Jim is going to need some lessons in love from an old friend if his inadequacies in that department are not going to show through. Seeking out old flame (and first love) Michelle (Hannigan), now a counselor at Band Camp, the two of them set about sorting out Jim's technique…
Directed by JB Rogers (assistant director on the first film) 'American Pie 2' manages to be a perfect sequel. First up all of the actors return to the same roles, but even more importantly, this film moves their characters forward, and we learn more about them. And it's very, very funny. It wouldn't be 'American Pie' if it didn't get down and dirty, and there is plenty of suitably filthy humour especially the opening sequence, the episode with the porn video and the superglue, and the lesbian housemates…
With Mena Suvari back as Oz's now girlfriend Heather (and away in Europe for most of the film) and Tara Reid back as Kevin's ex Vicky, the whole crowd is reunited, but most of the high points in the film are again handed to Eugene Levy as Jim's dad and William Scott as the irrepressible Stifler. A corker of a film, easily as funny as the first, and definitely worth watching… E
