The film begins by trying to paint a picture of Ali G’s life as leader of the ‘West Staines Massive’, and all is well until the local leisure centre is closed down. Ali is so enraged by this he decides that in order to get want he wants he should enter politics.
Remarkably, Ali turns out to be extremely popular and he is elected to government after winning a by-election. After introducing a number of controversial new laws, the deputy Prime Minister is delighted to see that the popularity of the government has risen dramatically, and Ali is seen by the evil deputy as a pawn he can manipulate to help get rid of the bumbling Prime Minister, whom they seek to sabotage. What follows is a battle of wits between the Prime Minister and his devious deputy, which leads Ali to conclude that it is safer on the streets of Staines than in Parliament.
A must for all Ali G fans, Cohen has managed to transfer his very successful show into an extremely fun and entertaining film, with loads of cameos from well-known British stars. However, this film is definitely not for the easily offended.
