Hollywood Holidays...

It will soon be that time of year again to get out your passport, pack up your suitcase and jet off on your summer holiday. However if you are stuck for ideas this year, why not let Hollywood’s finest help you out. Find out from celebrities such as Julia Roberts, George Clooney and Angelina Jolie, amongst others, what are the some of the favourite places they have visited and be inspired.

VAL KILMER

Former ‘Batman’ star Val Kilmer says that New Mexico is a wonderful place to live and to visit. He said, “Tesuque, New Mexico. I have a 30-acre ranch there. I feel a sense of timelessness there. My grandfather was a gold miner/prospector, so my father had marvellous, very romantic Wild West stories about being raised on Zuni land in New Mexico. I went there looking for that same sense of wilderness."

SIGOURNEY WEAVER

Sexy ‘Heartbreakers’ actress Sigourney Weaver reveals that one of her favourite places is New York. She explains, “I love the frenetic pace. I wouldn't trade that for any other city in the world. I was at a party outside the city and this woman was saying how she'd moved away from New York because she thought the squirrels were rabid. And I thought, 'Well, that's nice you don't have to be there, but, you know, when's the next train back?’"

JULIA ROBERTS

Hollywood’s highest paid actress Julia Roberts reveals that she was amazed at Venice in Italy when she first visited. She said, “I’ll never forget the first time I went to Venice. I was 19 or 20. It was the strongest sensation in my life. I had no idea about the water factor, that there were no cars. It makes me sound like an idiot - and I don’t care. All I can say I was stunned, just stunned.”

BRENDAN FRASER

Action guy Brendan Fraser says one of the reasons he agreed to do ‘The Mummy’ and its sequel was the opportunity to visit the desert. He explained, “A good reason why I wanted to be a part of this film was because we would go to an exotic location like the Sahara Desert, somewhere I've never been in my life before. The constellations were just breathtaking, and the geographical features were just amazing.”

BRAD PITT

Sexy Brad Pitt revealed he loved working with Julia Roberts in Mexico on the set of ‘The Mexican’. He said, “The location was fantastic. There were no stresses unless you’re allergic to scorpions! It was a cool and beautiful place. This defunct mining town that's been there for centuries at the top of this mountain range and you took this mile and a half of tunnel in and then you came out in this bowl. The town was built along the sides where the main mode of transportation was burro. They had one phone line until we came in and put our modems and faxes in. Now I think they're all on Ebay.

RACHEL WEISZ

‘The Mummy’ actress Rachel Weisz said she was amazed by the beauty and strange customs of Morocco. She explained, “Marrakech was beautiful, it's a really beautiful city, market towns, snake charmers, dentists pulling teeth and men queuing up for impotency drugs from the witch doctor.” She adds, “Moroccan men are obsessed with impotency, obsessed I can't tell you. They don't have Viagra yet over there but the desert was hot, really hot - 130 degrees. It's very, very, very hot and difficult.”

LEONARDO DICAPRIO

Heart-throb Leonardo DiCaprio, who is currently starring in the epic ‘Gangs Of New York’ reveals he loves travelling and especially enjoyed working on ‘The Beach’ in Thailand. He explained, “It's the most unbelievable place on earth right now. Totally unique. It's like the Roman Empire - anything and everything happens there. It's a crazy, wild, insane mix of really sweet people and a very violent culture. It's a whole demented world there. I always get something from travelling. I always pick up little bits and pieces here and there but, especially in Thailand.” He adds, “When I first read ‘The Beach’, I had no idea that there was this culture of backpackers that have travelled from all around the world searching for something. That was the most amazing thing for me. I had no idea there were so many westerners in a far off place like that, all searching for that sort of hippie-like, nomadic existence.”

GEORGE CLOONEY

‘Solaris’ actor George Clooney reveals that he loves Italy so much that he has bought his own holiday villa there. He said, “It’s in Lake Como, Italy. It's beautiful. I'm between like Villa Dessa and Belagio. It's just beautiful, and I have got a boat, like a big sixteen seat beach craft that you get on, and go, 'Well, lets go to Harry's Bar and you ride over there and get a beer and some food.'”

PENELOPE CRUZ

Latin beauty PENELOPE CRUZ, who is rumoured to be the next Mrs Tom Cruise, reveals that she loved the Greek island of Kefalonia, where she filmed ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’. She said, “The island was wonderful. It's a magical place, very similar to some of the Spanish islands and has a very similar culture to some of the islands. It was very beautiful.”

ANGELINA JOLIE

Action babe Angelina Jolie has just finished filming a sequel to her blockbuster ‘Lara Croft - Tomb-Raider’ says that the time she spent filming in Cambodia was very special to her. She explained, “Cambodia is the most beautiful place that I've been to and I learned a lot in Cambodia, and I know that you're writing fun articles and those things and I don't want to get into the heaviness of it, but I discovered things about what's happening in the world.” She adds, “My eyes started opening up when I was in Cambodia, I learned so much about these people and what they had been through, and I expected to meet a certain kind of people because of that, and when I met them, they were so generous and open and kind and spiritual. I couldn't believe that they would have such patience with us and such openness after all of that.”

ORLANDO BLOOM

Up-and-coming heart-throb Orlando Bloom, who plays the elf Legolas in Peter Jackson epic ‘Lord Of The Rings’ trilogy reveals he loved making the movies in New Zealand. He said, “It's such a beautiful place and it was such a wonderful experience to be working on such an exciting project, and then, to have the time to enjoy the landscape and the beauty of the country. It was really a special time for me.

PIERCE BROSNAN

Pierce Brosnan has travelled to many fabulous locations filming his role as James Bond and says he is spoilt for choice when trying to choose his favourite place in the world. He said, “I love them all. I love Ireland, I love London, I love New York very much, I live in LA and I have the good fortune and the good luck to be able to travel.”

HEATH LEDGER

Australian actor Heath Ledger reveals he loved Morocco after filming his period drama ‘Four Feathers’ there. He said, “I loved everything about Morocco. I loved the food, the people. I love how isolated I was out there. I loved how insignificant everything became, how small I felt. It's very humbling out there.” He even adds that he loved the native camels. He explained, “They're not that hard to ride, really. You just have to hang on for your dear life. They've got good personalities, and they like cruise around. They have a grin on their face. It looks like they smoke tons of hash or something because they're always just cruising.”

JOHNNY DEPP

‘From Hell’ actor Johnny Depp reveals that he loved France so much that he has now made a home there with his wife and children. He said, “France is home to me. People know how to live! In America, they've forgotten it. I am charmed by the French way of life. It is more civilized and sophisticated.” He adds, “France has really given me the opportunity to have a fairly normal, simple life. I can go to this tiny village not far from my house and have a cup of coffee and sit there with my girl and not worry about paparazzi.”
